Black Cat

It's never too early to think about Halloween!  This week at My Time To Craft we are challenging you to create a project using a black cat.
This card was made with the new Eek and Shriek (B1429) stamp set from Close To My Heart. The best part?  The cat was cut using the new Artbooking Cricut Cartridge - also from Close To My Heart!

Be sure to let me know if you'd like your own stamp set or Cricut cartridge!  Don't forget to visit us at My Time To Craft.  The rest of the DT has more to share with you!

The Colors of Autumn

It's September, and even though it's still warm, it is time to get crafting with those autumn colors.  My Time To Craft has the challenge to help you do just that!

Close To My Heart's Huntington papers were used to make this card.  The stamp set is So Grateful (B1395). After adding some twine and a pewter stud, the card was done.

Be sure to visit us at My Time To Craft and take a look at the rest of the Design Team's work.  We hope you'll be inspired to join us!

Have a great weekend!

Wednesday Wisdom #15

Lord, take me where You want me to go;
Let me meet who You want me to meet;
Tell me what You want me to say, and
Keep me out of Your way.

Ice Cream Parlor Chairs Meet the Farm Table

Let me start this post by saying I love all things old - vintage - antique.  Ice Cream Parlor Chairs have been a favorite since I was a little girl.  I've had one since that time, but have always wanted a set.  Recently, I've also had the desire for a Farm Table - but have you seen the prices on those things?!  Being a "Thrifty Gal" , I decided there was more than one way to skin a cat!

While "antiquing", I came across this set of 4 chairs:
I managed to get them for a good price, so they came home with me.  They sat in the garage for a bit, while I went in search of the farm table.  I kept watching Craigs List and found this table:
Again, a good price, so it came home with me.  This pic was taken after we removed the legs to fit it in our vehicle.  Yes, I'm going to need a truck f I keep this up!  Did you notice the shape of the legs?  They just screamed, "Yes, I can be a Farm Table"!!!

When I got it home, my sander and I got right to work!  I'm pretty sure there were 25 coats of that orangy stain/poly, but my trusty sander cut through it!  Here's a peek of it when I got down to the bare wood:
This is also my "Glamour Shot".  You know - hair a mess, covered in sawdust and sweat - it was over 100 degrees that day!

I spray painted the legs and the skirt with white paint.  I debated on distressing the them and decided not to - for now!  I reserve the right to change my mind!  I stained the top with walnut stain, reattached the legs, and, this is what I had:
I needed to protect the top and had read about Polycrylic on a few different sites.  So, I decided to give it a try.  I had never used it before, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised!  It brushed on easily, dried quickly, and clean-up was a breeze with just soap and water.  This table ended up with 3 coats.

The table has been in use for about 3 months now, and the finish is holding up very well!
My husband volunteered to spray paint the chairs white.  Here's a close-up of one of the chairs:

The final look?  Here ya go...

Now, I know you just counted and came up with 6 chairs, not the four in the original picture.  Well, I bought 2 others.  They aren't a perfect match, but close enough!

I absolutely LOVE my new table and chairs and I'm hoping that. someday (hopefully soon), they will live in a vintage house!  Wish me luck on that one!

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope you'll come back again soon!

Summer Bucket List Results

It's Labor Day Weekend and that always signals the end of summer.  School has already started here, so, sadly, my blog has been a bit neglected.  Once I'm into my "school routine" the posting will improve.  So, please stay with me - I've got lots to share!

In the meantime -- Here are the Summer Bucket List Results:
FYI - Everything has a link!

1. Lose 10 pounds.  Well, I lost 2!  I was very enthusiastic about starting an exercise routine.  The very first day I started, my knee said, "Oh no you don't"!  I decided to listen because it really hurt!  I may be visiting the doctor...stay tuned for that one!

2.  Create one new thing from Pinterest each week for a total of 10 projects.  I completed this one!  Here they are:
  1.  Chicken Tortilla Soup
  2.  A Better Mousetrap
  3. Paint Stirrer Flag
  4. Crispy Southwest Chicken Wraps
  5. Christmas Tree Ornament from Corks
  6. Jeans Pillow
  7. Jeans Apron
  8. Coffee Cup Cozy
  9. A Piece of Cake
  10. Soda Bottle Prizes
3.  Complete 10 Scrapbook Pages.  I completed 7:
  1. 4 are shown in this post
  2. 2-Page Christmas Layout
  3. Soccer
4.  Attend CK Convention.  Yes, I did - and it was a blast!  See the post here.

5.  Read 8 New Books.  This was an easy one since I LOVE to read!  I actually read more, but here are the ones I posted about:

  1. The Great Gatsby
  2. Where the Heart Is
  3. Maids of Misfortune
  4. Look Again
  5. Joyland
  6. The False Prince
  7. Guilty Wives
  8. The Fort
  9. Come Back
My Top Three (in no particular order):
  1. The Great Gatsby
  2. Joyland
  3. Guilty Wives
6.  Take a Trip.  Unfortunately, we didn't get to this one.  We had a lot of "stuff" going on and we just couldn't fit it in.  Stay tuned, though.  That will be a post in the future!

Thanks for joining me this summer on my Summer Bucket List Quest!  I'm already planning another.  The question is...will we have to wait until next summer????

Happy Labor Day Weekend - Have fun and be safe!
