Origami Box

I found this box on the Scor-Pal site awhile ago.  I thought, "How cute would that be with the Close To My Heart Veranda papers?"  Now I know!  The finished box is approximately 3 inches square.  Think of the goodies that you could put in there - candy, gift cards, rolled-up hundred-dollar bills... The possibilities are endless!

Made It!

It has definitely been a wild week! Last Friday night, my husband had a gig.  He'd been having pain in his hip all week, but once you're on stage performing - all pain is gone!  I had to be up a 6:00 for "Writing Camp" for our 5th Graders (They were taking the State Writing Proficiency this week.).  We got home at about 2:30 in the morning and the pain was back.  I went to bed since I had to be up in a few hours.  That morning, while I was drying my hair, the door opened and my poor husband stood there, white as a sheet!  The only thing he could say was "I have to see a doctor".
Now, I had a dilemma. I was supposed to be at school by 8:00, but my husband needed me too.  He said he could make it to Quick Care on his own and sent me off to school. Yes, I know, I won't be getting the Wife of the Year Award and I did feel really guilty.   He was diagnosed with sciatica pain and sent home with anti-inflammatory pills and pain-killers.  The poor guy was in SO much pain!
So, I took over all of the household duties - the cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. which made him crazy, since he normally does all of that.  Yes I know I am very spoiled!
The bottom line?  The 5th Graders made it through the Writing Proficiency (even the ones who missed one or more sessions!  Guess what this Literacy Specialist spent her week doing???), we ate decent meals(yes, I can cook!), the laundry is done, the house is clean, and most importantly, my husband is feeling better!!!!
We made it through this week and I'm looking forward to a better one.  Who, knows, maybe I'll even get something creative done!  You can be sure I'll post it if I do!

The Showgirl Must Go On

We saw Bette Midler's show at the Colosseum last night. Not being a huge Bette Midler fan, I really wasn't sure what to expect.  She was hilarious!  The mermaid, Delores Delago blew me away.  The entire number was performed with Bette and the showgirls in motorized wheelchairs.  Now, I know what you're thinking.  But, it was incredible.  Think about the choreography involved!!!
She told jokes that insulted every ethnic and social group, dropped a million f-bombs, had great dancers and musicians, and couldn't get the man sitting next to me to crack a smile!!! (No, I don't mean my husband!)  Of course, that made me laugh even harder!!  Seriously, why did this man come to this show?  Granted, as I stated earlier, I wasn't a huge fan, but I did know the type of humor she uses!
All in all, it was a fun night, despite the pouring rain outside.  And...if you remember my New Year's Resolution, I had fun!

A Staff Development Day Thank You

Yesterday was Staff Development Day at our school.  If I've learned anything, you never present anything to a group of teachers without trying it first.  My presentation was on Vocabulary Strategies and I was fortunate enough to have my teachers/friends volunteer to try some of these strategies with their students.  I also asked them to share their expereinces in the classroom.  They were great!
To thank them, I made these matchbook Post-It Note Holders.  Once again, I used Close To My Heart products - Juniper inks & cardstock, Veranda papers, and the A Love stampset.  They seemed to really like it!  I hope you do, too!
Thanks again Carrie, Jennifer, and Tammy!

Re: Valentine House

Since I can't figure out how to edit the post without losing the slideshow, I'm just adding a new post. Did I mention that I'm "technologically challenged"???
My inspiration for this project came from http://lilybeanpaperie.typepad.com/lilybeans_paperie/
The site had a little house with sheet music, lots of lace, pink, and glitter. I thought it was beautiful. So, I remembered that we had the Around the Block stamp set. Did I mention that I'm a Close To My Heart consultant? But, I digress!!
I purchased the house from saveoncrafts. When it arrived, I went to town with stamps, inks, paper, some paint, chunky glitter, and ribbon. One thing that the photos don't show is the fact that the roof comes off, so you can stash goodies inside.
I really enjoyed this project. Can't you picture these for different holidays? Bunnies and eggs for Easter, spiders and ghosts for Halloween, and don't get me started on the possibilities for Christmas!
You may be seeing more of these!
Enjoy!

Before and After

I've always wanted an antique student desk. I'm sure it's the teacher in me! A few months ago, we spent the morning going to garage sales. As we approached this front yard, my heart skipped a beat. There was this little desk. I was especially excited because it was so small. It stands a mere 23 inches tall. How cool! I asked the owner how much she wanted for it and she replied, "$15". I couldn't believe my luck! Just what I wanted and cheap, too!

A few months later, some research, and some elbow grease, you can see the result. We think it's a Shaker desk made for a kindergartener. It may be missing a few original parts, but I don't care. It's in my living room and it's MINE!

Happy New Year!

Hard to believe it's 2010 already! Did you make a New Year's Resolution? Every year I struggle with that one. There's always the usual: exercise more, eat better, etc. The other day I read an article in the newspaper about having fun. The article pointed out that we are a nation of procrastinators. We don't use those gift cards, don't open that bottle of special wine (aren't they all special?), and put off vacations. We should stop this behavior and just have fun.

So, there you have it - my resolution - Have Fun!!! I'm really going to work at this one!!
What about you?

We celebrated New Year's Eve by going out this year. My husband is a guitar player and he had a gig. It was at the clubhouse for a marina on Lake Mead. There was a great buffet and lots of dancing. It was a lot of fun, but a long night!
Happy 2010 Everyone!
